Today Tiia Savila opens her life. She feels the true value of smile trying to find positive and humorous notes in the theater of life. “ Currently my biggest hobby is falling – it makes me laugh hard to realise that I fit into such tight places. Please describe yourself with five sentences or just say what pops into your head.

As a child I wanted to be a doctor. That was the world of my dreams. I wish to be able to provide for myself, but the job needs to be something that requires brains. 

What is the story of your special need?

I have been with special need for a whole live – lack of speech and  limitations in motoric skills have been present since birth. My spine started changing in my adolescent years. I didn’t believe that eventually my legs and hands will be so weak that I need that much help to move. 

What does your everyday life look like in terms of job and hobbies?

Currently I can’t do anything big. I love to take walks. Currently my biggest hobby is falling – it makes me laugh hard to realise that i fit into such tight places. I can’t take falling down seriously. I read when I find an interesting book. Then I don’t even want to leave my bed. My favorite writer is Tiit Sepa. He writes in a beautiful Estonian in a way that dictionary is not necessary. One of my favorite poets is Doris Kareva. Few days ago I rediscovered her poem “Hold on to life with your teeth!”

If you fall, I don’t get hurt.
Simply something becomes emptier within me.
I cry in my sleep, I don’t know why,
for you like I would for me.

Do you have a dream about Estonia? If yes, then what is it?

My dream is to see more equality in Estonia. There is no need for Tallinn and Võsa-Eesti. Contributing into community is important because we never know what might happen to us tomorrow. 

What does the term “changing the world” mean to you? How should one do it?

Changing the world is an extremely broad term. For some it is saving animals, for some picking up trash. I think that all people need to be more tolerable. After finishing a school in Haapsalu I was shocked – I was able to go to work, but anywhere else I was frowned upon. 

What is your most “strange” talent?

I don’t know if it is a talent, but I can’t hear my own voice. My speech is broken, but I hear it like there is nothing wrong with it. I have been thinking that if I could hear my voice, I wouldn’t even open my mouth.
