What is Helpific?

Helpific is an open web-environment that connects people who need help to those who want to help them. Our idea started from an actual need that thousands of people face every day. We gave the idea a shape at a „Garage48 Enable“ product development hackathon, which was framed with the intention to make the lives of people with special needs easier and to enable them better coping with living their independent life. Through today’s environment at www.helpific.com, communities can support the people who need help in the neighbourhood – for example people with special needs and the elderly – with transportation help, household chores or activities outside home (accompany in cultural events etc). Submitting the so called help request is as easy and convenient for people who need help as ordering a taxi or a pizza. We are not an agency of service providers or a centre for voluntary activities, but a platform that connects the members of the community in order to increasingly notice, support and encourage each other.

We have started a campaign called “Hooandja” to update our support environment and this way bring necessary help and support to more people and communities.

Why is Helpific environment important?

By now we have hundreds of people in our environment who actively offer and find help. At the same time, it is clear that we still have a lot to do. As those who request help are mostly people with special needs, we wish to turn the support environment into a fast, convinient and safe solution thereby resolving the bottlenecks in current social welfare. Today it is possible to see the help requests on the homepage of the web-page after the users have signed in. To find people who are willing to offer their help, we are spreading the requests at the permission of the users also on Helpific Facebook page to simplify and quicken the possibilities to find help as well as to increase the number of those people who want to assist a person who needs help in the community. By now over 250 people have received help from Helpific and our wish is to make the environment available to all the people and communities who need help all over Estonia.

Where is the “Hooandja” support used?

Helpific in its essence is not a paid service, but a lot of help requests and offers are still connected to remuneration. We want to develop an available and satisfying payment environment for both parties to make finding help more efficient and our mission more sustainable. Our user experience analyses showed that ca 60% of our users prefer helping on a voluntary basis and ca 40% of the users wish to pay a symbolic sum for the service. Helpific ensures that we shall always maintain ordering help on a voluntary basis as our main priority. We expect an impetus for the support of the necessary control system of personal data to increase the security of our users. We are also planning to add to the user data the possibility to give feedback to make the finding of a helper as secure as possible. This way we shall together create a wide and region-covering data base – through Helpific help requests shall reach thousands of volunteers or those who seek one-time paid work. This way we shall also promote voluntary activities in the social field.

We are counting on the generosity and impetus of people who value the communal mentality. With the help of your contribution we can develop the Helpific support environment by making it more secure and convenient for the end-user. With the help of the support environment and the community, people with special needs can live a more independent life.
